The Dartmouth Experimental Visualization Laboratory (DEVLAB) is
hosted in the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth. The DEVLAB
is a multimedia research laboratory specializing in multimedia technology,
data analysis, information retrieval, multimedia database, video
analysis, medical imaging, and more recently, electronic commerce.
There are also projects in WWW tool development and multimedia prototyping
system.
The DEVLAB has an extensive complement of Macintosh, UNIX/Linux,
and Microsoft Windows NT computing equipment for support of multimedia
production. Audio and video support includes cameras, microphones,
mixers, lighting equipment, and monitoring equipment.
DEVLAB research projects include applications that incorporate
cooperative elements from several other academic departments, such
as Psychiatry at the Dartmouth Medical School, Music, and History.
This gives the lab access to the perspectives of various experts
and non-technical computer users, which has helped to expand knowledge
in user interface design and end-user understanding. Students working
in the lab range from first year undergraduates to advanced graduate
students. |
